Hey guys, Corex hosting here. So, we have kind of a little special video here. This is like a beta version. So, an Avalon Canon Avalon A16, 282 terrahash, I'm pretty sure. As you can see, it's a beta version — they don't even have any markings on here, just says A16 on the side. And so, I got this to test it out.
I do have some A-15s that I'm already hosting and they've been really good, zero issues. So when I was able to get this A16 for a test run, I wanted to see what these were like — was the build quality the same, better, or worse? This one's a little beat up — the box it came in is not the original and it bounced around a bit. I opened up the top just to make sure everything is still connected, and it looked fine. In general, these Avalons are pretty robust — pretty compact, a little lighter than the S21s but a smaller form factor, so they actually feel heavier because they're more compact, but the actual weight is less.
They have two fans in the front, 140mm, a little thicker than usual, and no fans on the back. What I see is Avalon doesn't push their chip to 100% — they keep it a little under so it runs smoother and cooler, which also means better build quality since they're not pushing everything to the max. Everything else looks pretty similar to previous Avalons — 220 to 277 volt plugins, same as the A14s and A15s, so the same plugins you use on the S21s will not work here; you need a different cord, but it does have an on/off switch, which I really like. Size-wise it's a little more compact than the S21, more like an S19 size.
So, what we're going to do is get it up on the shelf and go from there. [Update] Okay, so we got the miner — it's been up and running for almost two and a half days now. I actually had to put it at my original site because it was a touch too tall to fit on the shelf compared to an S21 XP, so it's on the shelf at my original facility, which has more room, and it's been running really good — 2 days and 8 hours so far. It's still 85 degrees outside even at night, and I was checking it earlier when it was 95 out in the middle of the day — temperatures are pretty much the same, fans are not maxed out, and the temperature's been really good. From a thermal standpoint, the miner has been awesome.
This isn't a specific A16 or A16 XP model — it's somewhere in between, since they're testing the chip to see if it should be tuned down to A16 or bumped up for the A16 XP. But everything I'm seeing is really efficient — about 13.2 watts per terahash in the gooey itself, which is better than the S21 XP, and at-the-wall is usually about 50 watts higher than that based on other Avalons I've worked with. Still really good, and the temperature has stayed great despite the heat.
